“Don’t believe everything you read” is the message from Activision today, after promotion for future release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was leaked last week – sending fanboys into frenzy believing they had finally gotten a deployment date for the hotly-tipped title.
Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg dropped a bomb on the leak and addressed the third-party mercenaries who released very official looking posters which seemed to expose the launch date for the next Call of Duty shooter.
The CEO says “Friday was really interesting, really a kind of cool day. And while it’s definitely not cool to steal other people’s intellectual property and while it’s definitely not cool to leak stuff that’s not yours, there are ways that you can respond that actually turn lemons into lemonade”
Teaser trailers have been officially released to the worldwide gaming community, but a release date has been highly guarded and it did come as a surprise when the promotion suddenly appeared last week without any nod from the CoD publisher.
“If there’s gonna be a dialogue about our game, we want it to be between us and our fans and not between leakers and our fans.” – Hirshberg adds.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming to Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC with a Wii release only speculated. With the hoaxers now shot down, we’ll be waiting – presumably until E3 next month – to get the official briefing from Activision.
