Following Amazon’s mysterious decision to pull sales of Nintendo’s 3DS portable console in the United States yesterday, Nintendo has issued a statement to reassure buyers it’s not their fault and the online marketplace’s decision to withdraw is not down to any dodgy stock.
The online marketplace dropped its own sales of the Nintendo 3DS handheld, leading to speculation as to what the problem was. Was it a problem with the item itself, or difficulties shipping to customers? There’s yet to be anything forthcoming from Amazon, but Nintendo has now spoken out: “An internal Amazon.com shipping issue triggered a brief hold on orders of Nintendo 3DS systems while the situation was reviewed, as is common in such matters.”
Outselling even Nintendo’s Wii, the 3DS became the largest pre-ordered games system in Amazon’s history. However, the US release was troubled by a series of customer complaints due to damage to units shipped by Amazon and scratched screens. Amazon’s UK counterpart was not problem-free at the time of the handhelds public release either. Pre-order deliveries could not be met and a number of buyers were left disappointed on release day.
Nintendo’s statement continues “Amazon.com resolved the issue, and Nintendo 3DS orders have resumed. There are no issues with Nintendo 3DS inventory or quality. For additional information about this incident, please contact Amazon.com.”
It would seem Amazon isn’t in a talkative mood just yet, but sales of Nintendo’s 3DS have now been reinstated.
