Amazon Launches One Hour Delivery Service in London

After priding itself on a second-to-none next day delivery service (at cost) Amazon has now gone one better – offering delivery on many items within the hour in a new service called Prime Now.

Prime Now has been in action in five United States cities for a little while now and, after success over the pond, inhabitants of inner London can also enjoy the same super-speedy delivery as of today when they order via the handy Amazon Prime Now app for Android and iOS.

There are currently around 10,000 items eligible for drop-off to your desk or front door in no more than 60 minutes – but it will cost the modest fee of £6.99 and the order must meet a minimum of £20. A same-day, two-hour time slot between 8am and midnight is also available free to Amazon Prime members.

As an incentive to try the new service Amazon is offering a £20 discount on goods of £50 or above, ordered through the Prime Now app (use code LONDONNOW at checkout).

Many have already put Amazon’s pledge to the test and the results seem positive – for those in the very specific drop zones. However there do seem to be a few black spots that Amazon won’t deliver to just yet, that are fairly central regions of the capital. We’re sure this will be ironed out as the Prime Now service expands and evolves. It’s expected that the service will also reach other major cities in coming months.
