Android is certainly progressing rapidly these days, just the other day Google’s VP of Mobile and head honcho Android man Andy Rubin announced on Twitter that there are now over 500,000 Android devices being activated every day.
And now, we have another measure of just how well Android is doing, as The Guardian are reporting that there have now been 4.5 billion apps downloads, which compared with around 1 billion app downloads a year ago.
Interestingly the first billion downloads took Google 2 years to achieve, yet the latest billion downloads happened within the last 60 days.
These figures are certainly impressive to say the least, although Android is still very much in the shadow of Apple’s app store, as Apple announced back in January this year the Cupertino company hit a total of 10 billion downloads on iOS devices.
