If you’re a big Android fan, you might be interested in this one. The latest rumours circulating the tech blogosphere is that Google may be launching the next version of it’s Android operating system, 3.1 or Ice Cream Sandwich, sometime in October.
The folk over at BGR have it from what they say to be a reliable source within Google with knowledge of Ice Cream Sandwich plans, that version 3.1 will be released in October alongside some Ice Cream Sandwich-running devices.
Google have apparently moved the release date forward to hopefully try and steal some of the spotlight from Apple, who are also rumoured to be announcing the much talked about iPhone 5 around that time.
Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to combine the best parts of Gingerbread and Honeycomb releases and like iOS there will be one version for phones and tablets – that means no customisation or home-brewed UI’s will be allowed. Hopefully Google will be able to confirm things sooner rather than later, although as it stands we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
