Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update now hitting the Sony Xperia J

Sony has confirmed that it is now bringing the excellent Android Jelly Bean software update to its mid-range Xperia J smartphone.

The J is the latest Xperia in Sony’s range to make it to Android 4.1.2, which is Google’s latest Android platform but not quite the very latest version of it. It brings a number of improvements and additions, adding further value to an already great phone for its asking price.

Speaking via its official Sony Mobile blog, Sony confirmed that the update would be rolling out in the coming weeks. Xperia J users will receive a notification when the update is ready, although a manual check can also be done for those who are impatient;

Open Settings > Tap About phone > Tap System updates

Jelly Bean brings Google Now, which offers users a speedy and smooth way to search by text and voice as well as receive live updates for sports scores, flight times and much more. Google’s Project Butter software technology will also make the phone faster and smoother to use in general.

Sony has also added Quick Settings which allow the user easy access to change various aspects of the phone and turn connections like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on and off quickly.

The update is likely to hit SIM-free versions of the Xperia J first, followed by network branded models. You’ll need Sony’s PC Companion software for PC or Bridge for Mac in order to perform the update, so it might be a good idea to get ready and install – downloads for both can be found here and here respectively.
