Android Market Set To Become Biggest Out There

Android’s Market will soon take the lead against Apple’s App store in terms of how many different apps each store sells this August, according to analyst Research2Guidance who have been tracking app numbers in each company’s portfolio in the last few months.

Google is currently selling nearly 295,000 apps in the Android Market. Meanwhile, Apple has around 380,000 apps in the App Store. It’s certainly close.

Apple’s App Store may be 85,000 apps ahead, but the Android Market had 28,000 fresh entries uploaded in April, while the App Store only grew by 11,000.

If this is a continual trend, the Android Market will soon overtake Apple’s app store August and grab the title of the world’s biggest place to get apps with 425,000 apps.

Apples flagging may be to do with their stricter guidelines than Google when it comes to control the content of apps that are uploaded.

Apple’s reaction to this might not be serious at all, apart from snide comments about quality of apps as opposed to quantity – predictions have it that Apple will hold a 77 per cent share of the $3.8 billion 2011 app revenue.

Still, Go Android Army!
