Angry Birds Become ‘Freddie for a Day’ in Honour of Queen Frontman’s Birthday!

Legendary rock icon Freddie Mercury would have been 66 years old tomorrow and in honour of the Queen front man the AIDs charity Mercury Phoenix Trust has come up with a fun way to raise funds by inviting fans to become ‘Freddie for a Day’ on the 5th of September. In support of the occasion the Finnish mobile games maker Rovio has created an Angry Birds animation featuring a feathered Freddie!

Freddie for a Day encourages sponsored events and individual efforts with thousands of fans dressing up in the rock star’s famously outlandish outfits complete with trademark moustache. Getting on the bandwagon – or pushbike as the case may be – the special clip features the Angry Birds pedalling through some scenery to the Queen tune ‘Bicycle Race’ with a crown-wearing yellow bird sporting white vest (as worn famously by Freddie on many live Queen shows) with chest hair exposed, and of course the famous ‘stache over his pointy beak!

The Freddie bird then confronts the king of the pesky green Piggies – main antagonists of our furious friends – whose own crown goes rusty and melts as the Freddie bird grins, showing off the familiar Mercury teeth.

It’s an eerie but brilliant tribute and we recommend checking it out as well as taking a look at the FreddieForADay.com website for ways to take part in the fun!

Angry Birds recently made another musical collaboration teaming up with punk band Green Day in a special edition level for the Facebook based Angry Birds Friends game. Pluck the latest on this story in our previous article!
