Angry Birds the movie is still a few years away with a scheduled release date of July 1st 2016 but we’re already being teased with a great line-up of actors and actresses who will be offering their voice talents to our famously feathered friends and their piggy foes.
Developer Rovio and Sony Animation are behind the Angry Birds film, which is based on the popular series of addictive app games for Android and iOS gadgets as well as socially on Facebook, and has now announced a A-list of famous names including Games of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and Eastbound and Down anti-hero Danny McBride to bring the characters to life in the full length CGI feature.
Diminutive actor Dinklage will perform the voice of the Mighty Eagle, ironically the biggest bird in the game, and McBride will play Bomb, the large explosive black bird. Main cast members joining the nest include Josh Gad as Chuck – the dynamic yellow bird, Maya Rudolph as Matilda – the white egg laying bird, Bill Hader as Pig and comic star Jason Sudeikis as Red, you guessed it – the red bird.
Other comedy names attached to the Angry Birds flick are Danny McBride’s Eastbound and Down final season co-star Jillian Bell, Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Tony Hale (Community), Keegan-Michael Key and Ike Barinholtz (Mad TV), stars of stand-up Cristela Alonzo and Hannibal Buress, Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla of web-based comedy series Smosh and Latin musician Romeo Santos is also on the list.
In addition to a stellar cast it was previously announced that animated feature specialist John Cohen of the Despicable Me films will be in charge of the production on the Angry Birds movie and has had high profile responsibilities on the Ice Age series.
As a well-established brand with successful games, cartoon series, crossovers with other top brands such as Star Wars and Transformers as well as every variety of merchandise available, from plush toys and T-shirts to cakes and candy, the Angry Birds are sure to soar at the box office when released in July 2016.
