Apple Maps has received a hefty update for the first time since its launch in iOS 6 last year, adding 3D buildings and the Flyover feature to fifteen new cities around the world.
Along with new cities Apple has also made additions and improvements to many other areas of its mapping service, with fourteen existing cities getting extended coverage when it comes to the Flyover feature. These include London, Madrid, Stockholm, Rome, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen and Toronto.
Unfortunately for anyone hoping to check out their town or city here in the UK in 3D, Apple hasn’t added a great deal. Glasgow is the only UK city to get 3D Maps and Flyover this time around, joining London which was mapped in glorious 3D from the beginning.
Most of the new cities are situated in the US and Canada, with the exceptions of Glasgow and Cologne, Germany. The full list includes;
- Modesto, CA
- Stockton, CA
- Indianapolis, IN
- Baltimore, MD
- Minneapolis, MN
- Portland, ME
- Albany, NY
- Buffalo, NY
- Cleveland, OH
- Tulsa, OK
- Providence, RH
- Green Bay, WI
- Vancouver, BC
- Cologne, Germany
- Glasgow, Scotland
Asides from 3D Mapping and Flyover improvements Apple has added new points of interest, improved turn-by-turn navigation and tweaked various aspects of the 3D mapping to better the overall user experience. With the whole debacle that surrounded the launch of the service and the addition of a free Google Maps app since, Apple may have to seriously step up its Maps game to get people using Apple Maps.
