Apple Car – iCar Rumoured

Apple is rumoured to be working on its own car, all based on a couple of rumours and some new hires. The concept of a technology company best known for Macs and portable media devices creating a car seems a bit of a leap to me, but that said the rumours are starting to look more solid, and everyone else is talking about it.

It is true however that Apple has been poaching staff from Tesla, couple that with cars loaded with cameras being spotted and confirmed as Apple rentals. Although Apple has its own mapping service so I’m sure they were merely for Apple Maps data, let’s not rule out an Apple iCar.

Bryan Chaffin, cofounder of The Mac Observer, says he’s “certain” Apple is working on a car. He claims the Apple Car is being created and it will “give Tesla a run for its money”, Telsa who make amazing electric powered supercars (I doubt it).

Chaffin also said: “I should add that when I asked one of my sources flat out to put a percentage chance on Apple working on an actual car – rather than some kind of car-related technology – I was told, ’80 percent.’” He went on to say he is certain they are.

Supposedly Steve Jobs wanted to build an iCar and toyed with the idea many times, but we also thought they were making a TV. Apple was also rumoured to be working on a television for years with no sign that these rumours will amount to anything. Maybe that was all crossed wires because apple was working on TV related products and we are now seeing the same with cars.

I’m not even slightly convinced that Apple are making a car, I won’t be getting one if they do but I am interested to see how this rumour grows and if it ever comes to fruition.
