Apple iPhone / iPad screen to size up / down in 2012?

Recently it was suggested by an ‘inside source’ (as always) that the Apple range of products will receive a full reboot in 2012, with iPad 3 screens shipping from Taiwanese suppliers as soon as December. Today more hushed tones have been heard which could suggest that the talk of a refresh of the popular gadgets could be true.

Shifting to the mainland north, this latest rumour comes from the Koreans and speculates that the next gen iPhone and iPad will both feature a new screen size with displays provided by LG. The smartphone would muscle up to a 4-inch display from the current iPhone4/4S 3.5-inch standard, and the tablet computer will be minimized to feature a 7.35-inch display (very specific) from the iPad 2’s generous 9.7-inch touchscreen. This would, of course, defy Steve Jobs’ ideal that a 7-inch tablet would be ‘dead on arrival’. Perhaps there are plans for a more pocket-friendly iPad variant? This is purely speculation.

It’s indeed strange how one gadget would go up in size and one would go down in size. Will Apple eventually merge these gadget in the middle, meaning we’d only need to fork out for a single all-in-one iOS gadget? – It’s a theory, but an unlikely one.
