iPhone Nano Rumoured: Will Too Much Apple Tip Over the Basket in 2012?

Not content with just a smaller tablet, with speculation recently surfacing of an “iPad Mini” being in production as we speak, it seems that Apple may seek to also miniaturise its leading mobile smartphone, if rumours today are too be believed. It’s certainly not the first time we’ve heard talk of an “iPhone Nano”.

And as with the iPad Mini, rumours of the iPhone Nano this time arise in China and just like the tablet this latest speculation suggests that a number of parts manufacturers have been approached by Apple and that they are currently working hard to produce the smaller gadget with scaled down spec to soon release a new iPhone for the middle-of-the-market mobile buyer.

At present those seeking to experience the almost religious fever of owning an Apple branded iPhone, without paying a price tag exceeding the £400 mark (contract free) attached to the current standard iPhone 4S, will generally have to settle for last season’s iPhone 4 or even further back the previous iPhone 3G model. But we think that an iPhone Nano – with less of the spec and smaller the hardware demands – would certainly satisfy a wider range of budgets, whilst keeping the tech in our hands fresh and relevant as well as make the previously “elitist” Apple owner’s club open to many more members.

What happens when you overfill the basket..?

On the other hand, we’re reminded of the thought we shared previously about Apple’s potential product roll out for 2012 possibly coming off as damaging to the brand. It’s a year that has already seen the “new” iPad (third gen) recently launched and with fingers crossed a true iPhone 5 will hit the market later in the year. But despite their individual merits, the addition of yet another iPad and another iPhone could oversaturate the tech market making the brand an eyesore. We’re just thinking aloud here and there’s really no doubt that anything carrying that famous fruity symbol will sell like hot cakes – cakes with a key ingredient of Apple.

“Why do we need so many kinds of apples? Because there are so many folks. A person has a right to gratify his legitimate taste. If he wants twenty or forty kinds of apples for his personal use. He should be accorded the privilege. There is merit in variety itself..” – Liberty Hyde Baily
