Apple looks set to break new ground in terms of storage space with its iOS devices, with a new 128GB version of the iPad 4 expected to launch imminently.
9to5mac’s sources have confirmed that Apple will soon be launching a single new iPad model, although it won’t be the fifth generation model that we’ve recently heard of.
The device will definitely keep the same design as the current 4th generation iPad with Retina display, and will come in black or white and 3G or WiFi, as per usual.
The news comes from a high profile US retailer, so it’s pretty likely that they have information on the product on their inventory systems ahead of a nearby release. The retailer refers to the current 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models as “GOOD”, “BETTER” and “BEST” respectively, and this new model is labelled “ULTIMATE” in the system.
All signs point towards a new 128GB iPad, and with developers recently digging up evidence of 128GB iOS devices in Apple’s latest software, it seems very likely.
Interestingly, 9to5mac has learned that this new model will be sold in batches of 10 as a deal to schools, colleges and other educational institutes. It could be that the new model is going to be specifically for schools and governments, though the site has confirmed it doesn’t have sufficient information to be certain.
