Apple to Launch 5th Generation iPod Touch with Larger 4-inch Screen this Year?

[tab name=’News’]

By now we’re sure you’ve heard plenty about Apple’s next iPhone and its supposed 4-inch screen, but what about the humble iPod Touch?

Apple’s slim and sleek multimedia player-cum-portable games console became popular for its likeness to the iPhone – we’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve heard people say, “it’s exactly like an iPhone, but without the phone features”.

The iPod Touch is currently in its 4th generation, which was revealed in 2010. Apple stuck with the same size and shape but bumped up the screen to a sharper Retina Display, added front and rear cameras, upgraded the processor and stuck in a microphone and 3-axis gyroscope.

It now looks as though Apple will be moving to keep the iPod Touch similar to its iPhone, if the rumours about its new larger screen are to be believed. Apple news site MacRumors recently posted pictures of some decidedly Apple product-looking parts, specifically the frame that would surround the screen on an iOS device.

From the pictures it’s clear to see that this part is intended for use on an iPhone or iPod Touch device with a larger screen – the bezel around the sides is much thinner and the screen itself is taller. At first we thought these parts were for the much-rumoured iPhone 5, but MacRumors are certain they’re from a 5th generation iPod Touch.

The iPod Touch was last reinvented in 2010 when Apple also reinvented the iPhone, announcing the iPhone 4 with its glass and metal design. With many people certain that Apple will again reinvent the iPhone later this year, it would make sense for them to continue the trend and do the same with the iPod Touch.

Should Apple stick with the current 3.5-inch screen on the iPod Touch, or would you prefer it to be a bit bigger?
