Apple launches iOS 6.1.1 update to fix various performance issues

  • by

Apple has released iOS 6.1.1 as a minor update to fix a number of ‘performance issues’ that have arisen for iPhone 4S users since last month’s upgrade to iOS 6.1.

Yesterday we reported that Vodafone UK was warning its iPhone 4S customers against upgrading to the new software until Apple fixed 3G problems. Apple discussion forums have also been filling up with users reporting severe battery life and overheating problems.

The update, weighing in at a fairly small 23MB in size, became available late last night on iPhone 4S devices around the world. Apple notes that the update “fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S.”

After backing up Vodafone’s message of “hold fire” yesterday, we now encourage iPhone 4S users to get upgrading to 6.1.1 to ensure any problems are avoided, or fixed, if you’ve already upgraded to 6.1.

To update your device first make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi. Follow these steps to find and install the update;

Open Settings > Tap General > Tap Software Update > Tap Download and Install

The update will be downloaded, your iPhone will restart and take a few minutes to install the new software, then it will come back on as normal.

Has iOS 6.1.1 fixed any problems you had with 6.1, or are you still having troubles?
