Apple’s super sleek new iMacs were facing a possible delay until the New Year, but now thankfully the Cupertino Company has confirmed availability starting November 30th.
The smaller 21.5-inch model will be available through Apple stores, the online Apple store and third party retailers as of the end of the month. This model is available in two different configurations; 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 and the NVIDIA GeForce GT640M graphics card or the more powerful model with a 2.9GHz Intel Core i5 and the NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics. Both models pack an impressive 8GB of RAM and Apple’s new 1TB Fusion hard drive for a speedy performance.
While these models will be available from the end of the month, the larger 27-inch model that’s likely to be more appealing to design types can be ordered only through the Apple online store, with delivery expected in “December”. It’s not clear exactly when in December the larger models will ship, although we would expect Apple to get them out in time for Christmas.
The 2012 iMac was revealed alongside the iPad Mini earlier this year, and represents one of the biggest design changes to the desktop Mac in many years. Apple has employed some intriguing new design processes in order to remove the air gap between the front panel and the screen itself, which gives the effect that the graphics are almost touchable right on the top of the display itself.
The new processes focus on the display assembly and mean that Apple has shaved a considerable amount of bulk off the frame of the iMac. As a result, the new models are an incredibly slender 5mm thin at the edges – that’s thinner than the iPhone 5!
The two 21.5-inch models start at £1,099 and £1,249 respectively, while the 27-inch models start at £1,499 and £1,699.
