Remember the new Archos G9 tablet range that was officially unveiled at the end of last month? They were billed as the cheapest tablets running Android Honeycomb software to date, but they’ve received a bit of a price bump along with a release date.
Both the 8-inch and 10.1-inch G9 tablets will be available in Europe and America this September for $299.99 (£210) and $369.99 (£260) respectively for the 8GB storage configuration. That’s a price jump of roughly £10-£20 per model (we’re yet to see official UK/EU prices). As of yet there isn’t an official price for the 250GB 10.1-inch monster.
All variations of the Archos G9 tablets will come pre-loaded with Android Honeycomb 3.1 and powered by a Texas Instruments OMAP 4 processor @ 1.5GHz. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on board and there’s an optional USB 3G module which can be bought for £49.99 and slotted into the back of the tablet.
One of Archos’ strong points when presenting these new tablets was the price – the cheapest Honeycomb tablets on the market. Will customers still take a look at the G9 tablets when shopping for a budget Android tablet after this small price hike? We’ll have to wait until September to find out!
