Archos has just released an incremental software update for owners of its 80 and 101 G9 tablets, taking the firmware version up a notch to 4.0.5.
After several delays the long-awaited update to Android 4.0 – aka Ice Cream Sandwich – launched on the mid-range tablets earlier this month. However, some users have been reporting a number of issues since updating to this version.
A small number of customers have reported an issue with their Wi-Fi connectivity dropping out intermittently after updating, and some have also reported a loss of sound when connecting their tablet via HDMI-out to a television. We’ve tested these issues thoroughly with our Archos 80 G9 here and thankfully haven’t come across either, though.
Archos has thankfully been on the ball to develop a quick fix for both issues, which it has packaged up into a firmware update. We turned our tablet on today and were immediately presented with a firmware update message in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. If you get this, simply tap the message and then tap OK when prompted to install the update.
If you don’t get the message, you can tell your tablet to find the update manually. To do this, follow these steps:
Settings > About Tablet > System updates
As far as we can tell this update is just a fix for a few teething problems with the initial ICS rollout – there are no pieces of additional software or new apps from what we can tell.
Has the update fixed any problems with your Archos G9 tablet?
