With just hours to go until the PS Vita goes on public sale in the United Kingdom, grocery shop/department store Asda has fired the opening shots in the inevitable price war for your Sony’s next generation portable purchase. The retailer has taken the PS Vita Wi-Fi only model, a gadget which is set to retail at around £227.99 and cutting the price down to just £197.
A sub-£200 handheld console is a much more attractive prospect than the average high asking price and the sacrifice of a 3G data connection and on-the-move gaming is quite quickly forgotten when there’s an extra thirty quid in your pocket. That can more than cover the cost of one of the entry level titles available on day one, such as augmented reality combat game Reality Fighters.
Expect other retailers to join in the price slashing fun when the PS Vita is finally released in the UK after a turbulent starting few months in Japan. HMV and Gamestation are offering trade-in deals for older gadgets to be exchanged for money off Sony’s latest – in some instances, bringing it down to less than £100.
Asda’s PS Vita deal will be available from the online and brick & mortar stores from midnight – but we advise you check if your local store is participating before showing up!
