Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Sets Sail – New Trailer & Website Officially Launched

Ubisoft has been forced to bring forward its official reveal of the next Assassin’s Creed game because leaks of the pirate-filled prequel just could not be kept under lock and key!

Expected to be announced at 5pm GMT today, the publisher has now already launched the trailer and website which went live in error on Friday, two days earlier than planned. Information and a screen grab of the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag mini-site emerged, confirming the 18th century naval theme in this new adventure and a release date, as well as revealing the game will be available on ‘next generation consoles’ – meaning the PlayStation 4 and new Xbox (720).

Since Friday’s leak the release date has had a minor tweak, moving the ACIV:BF launch from October 29th to October 31st and the cinematic style trailer does not feature any direct connection to the Assassin’s Creed III storyline, aside from the main character of the game being named as Edward Kenway.

Edward is a pistol-packing Templar and British Navy officer turned pirate. He’s also the father of Haytham Kenway, who himself is the English father of AC3’s part-Mohawk lead assassin Connor, so this story is set decades before the previous civil war saga and will feature both close combat and epic scale boat battles.

Infamous pirate Blackbeard provides an arch nemesis in the new fictional take on historical fact and as well as being mostly a seafaring adventure, players will visit ports such as Cuba and the West Indies. The Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag trailer shows off but a few of the many lavish locations and gives us a glimpse into what’s in store.

The footage looks stunning and we can’t wait to see the gameplay in action, which will most likely happen around the time of this year’s E3 expo, before the game arrives on PS3 and Xbox 360 in October.
