ASUS Transformer Prime Tablet and Keyboard Dock Now Available to Pre-Order in UK

  • by

Great news for UK-based gadget fans, as the first pre-order for the forthcoming ASUS Transformer Prime Quad Core Android tablet is now available through Clove Technology.

UK-based online retailer Clove has only just announced availability of the tablet through their pre-order system. The website will be stocking both the 32GB and 64GB versions, with the 32GB model coming with the detachable full QWERTY keyboard dock. Those who opt for the 64GB model won’t be able to get it bundled with the keyboard dock however.

ASUS announced two colours for the Transformer Prime tablet – Champagne Gold and Amethyst Gray. At present Clove will only be stocking the tablet in Amethyst Gray, which we have to say is our colour of choice out of the two.

The price for both tablets has also been announced, with the 32GB model plus keyboard dock costing the same as the 64GB model on its own – £550.80 (inc. VAT).

ASUS’s Transformer Prime is the sequel to the company’s hugely popular original Eee Pad Transformer Tablet, which soon became the most popular Android-based tablet to date.

If you haven’t heard of the Transformer Prime tablet before, then let us give you a run-down of the best bits. It’s slim – slimmer than Apple’s iPad 2 in fact – and lighter to boot. It will be the first tablet device to pack a Quad Core tablet, the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip. It will land in stores running Android 3.2 Honeycomb, but ASUS has already promised a software upgrade to the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich aka Android 4.0.

The front of the tablet is dominated by a beautiful 10.1-inch Super IPS+ display which sports a Full HD quality resolution. On the back of the tablet is an 8-Megapixel camera which is said to take great quality stills as well as Full HD Video. Photos and videos can be blown up on the big screen by connecting the tablet to a HDTV using the Micro HDMI-out port.

Battery life of the tablet is around 10 hours, though the keyboard dock contains its own separate rechargeable battery which can boost the tablet’s life up to a whopping 18 hours.

Unfortunately Clove can’t specify a release date for the tablet yet, though we should expect it to launch in January/February of next year.

We haven’t been this excited about a tablet for a long time, and will be sure to be placing our pre-orders soon. Will you?
