Asus have pulled the wraps off a brand new ultra-portable notebook laptop, the U36.
The U36 has been designed to be as slim, lightweight and durable as possible, all while retaining and impressive and powerful internal specs list.
Crafted from an ultra-light magnesium alloy, the U36 weighs just 1.44kg. At its thickest point, the U36 is only a svelte 19mm thick, making it one of the thinnest notebooks out there.
Despite its incredibly slim body, Asus have managed to cram in a surprising amount of gadgetry, ensuring that the laptop is both sleek and powerful. The processor is an Intel Core i5, graphics are provided by Nvidia with new Optimus technology and there’s 500GB of storage space.
In keeping with the “size matters” motto, the screen is 13.3”, though it is a HD TFT capable of pumping out a 1366 x 768 resolution. There’s also Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, a 5 in 1 card reader and USB 3.0 with Asus’ new Super Hybrid Engine.
Despite all that power, the U36 retains an impressive battery life of up to 10 hours standard. Thanks to Asus’ new Super Hybrid Engine, you can turn off USB 3.0 compatibility and add an extra 1.5 hours to your battery life – perfect for those last minute changes to a presentation at the end of the day.
To finish off the chic look of the U36, there’s a black chiclet keyboard (think MacBook Pro styley), and the casing is finished off with a soft-touch nanometer coating which is said to repel dirt, fingerprints and even water. We wouldn’t recommend taking it into the shower though.
If you like the sound of the Asus U36, it will set you back £699 and is available now through Micro Anvika, or at the end of the month through various other retailers.
