BBC Sports App to Arrive on Playstation 3 in Time for Summer Events

Sports apps are taking position ready to kick off a year of great British competitiveness, and following the Sky Sports News app recently launching and topping the league at the Carphone Warehouse awards, the BBC has decided to get on the ball with its very own dedicated sports app, which will touch down on Playstation 3 consoles before this summer’s big events.

The Playstation EU blog page made the announcement earlier today, revealing that the app will deliver coverage and content from upcoming events such as Formula One, the Euro football tournament and of course, the London 2012 Olympic Games from July to August. The blog also reveals that the app will be completely free of charge to subscribers of the Playstation Network (we still can’t call it Sony Entertainment Network just yet!)

Through the Olympic Games alone Sony claims the app will “deliver 2,500 hours of content and up to 24 simultaneous events, all in glorious HD and all at the touch of the X button” and all this will be complimented by a multiple choice of camera angles and “interactive experiences”.

The official launch date for the BBC Sports app is yet to be announced but it will be in time for the Wimbledon tennis tournament this June. Gadget Helpline will follow this story to keep you guys updated and let you the when you can score this free app!
