Gamers looking forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for the single player campaign mode are likely to be few and far between, so we’re guessing a trailer for the multiplayer aspect will go down a storm.
Activision and Treyarch have stepped up to provide the first official trailer detailing some of the features of the hugely anticipated title’s multiplayer modes. For some of the more hardcore CoD fans it won’t be enough, but we still get a pretty decent look with the 2 minute trailer.
Black Ops 2 is set in the near future, in a war-torn Los Angeles. This is clearly reflected in the multiplayer gaming, with a fine selection of advanced and futuristic weaponry on offer. We’re extremely excited to get stuck in to the multiplayer mainly for some of the fun machinery and controllable weapons in the game, such as the machine gun quadricopter, which is shown off in multiplayer mode in the trailer.
These appear to be earnable as killstreaks, and in the trailer we also see a sort of walkable robot with machine guns on each arm, which seems to move with the player and generally leave a wake of destruction. Another controllable perk appears to be a swarm of miniature phantom-style jets which can be used to target areas to explode.
On the face of it, we can see that Treyarch and Activision won’t be making any drastic changes to the look and feel of the multiplayer aspect. The HUD (heads up display) appears to be slightly different, with futuristic semi-transparent icons to display ammo, selected weapons and perks, while the radar is still in the top right of your display.
Finally, the trailer gives away a little about the maps we’ll get to wander around in Black Ops 2 multiplayer. The first map we see appears to be an abandoned rocket launch site in the middle of the desert, which reminds us of the Scrapyard level from Modern Warfare 2. The second map appears to be in a war-ravaged city – most likely Los Angeles – which is the basis of the game. We also see two further levels, one of which feels like a throwback to ‘Seatown’ in MW3, and another which is a shipping yard with plenty of cargo boxes to duck between.
We’re sure to see plenty more teasers and trailers as we draw closer to the November launch for this year’s Call of Duty title, so stay tuned!
