BlackBerry 10 to Feature Screen Sharing, a Video Editor and More Interesting Features

  • by

Research in Motion’s forthcoming BlackBerry 10 or ‘BB10’ operating system for smartphones is now official, although we only know about a few features so far.

CEO Thorsten Heins wowed us with an impressive Camera app, multitasking and natural gestures and a clever Swiftkey-like predictive touchscreen keyboard at BlackBerry world last week. Now, thanks to a forum member over at Crackberry.com, we’ve discovered more new features.

BlackBerry 10 will feature a full video editor to allow you to trim and tweak videos captured on your phone’s camera. We’re suspecting that BlackBerry 10 devices will all feature cameras capable of capturing video in Full HD 1080p quality, so an app such as this could be a very useful tool.

The next generation of BlackBerry smartphones will feature front facing cameras for video calling – something that until now, BlackBerry owners have not really been able to do. In amongst the new information presented by Crackberry forums member biggulpseh is the ability to share what’s on your device’s screen with others while video calling.

This could come in very handy for quickly showing somebody an email, photo or app all while video calling. It’s a feature that could be quite power-hungry, so we can expect BlackBerry 10 phones to feature pretty powerful processors.

There’s also an intelligent lock screen that reveals more information about your notifications as you swipe upwards on the screen. Facebook and Twitter integration is there in the OS for contact synchronisation and the like, and a snazzy new clock.

Along with the new information on BB10, biggulpseh also tells us a little about the forthcoming BlackBerry devices. Firstly the first BlackBerry 10 phone to hit the market will be one that we’ve already seen; the BlackBerry London. Interestingly, he or she also confirms that RIM has dropped the idea of a larger 10-inch BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, and will be sticking with the current 7-inch size.
