Bond 23 named on iPad – Exclusive press conference streamed via Apple Tablet

This morning stars and crew of the next James Bond picture appeared on Apple iPad tablets across the globe in a live streaming press conference to name the 23rd movie in the lengthy spy saga and we now know the newest adventure set for release in October 2012 will be called “Skyfall”.

The Bond franchise is famed for its guns and gadgetry, so what better platform to launch the project than an iPad. The series is currently lead by Daniel Craig as Agent 007, with Sam Mendes onboard to direct the follow-up to 2009’s “Quantum of Solace” and the London launch event today gave away some valuable info on the exciting story, detailed as “MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost”. The press conference also disclosed the locations including Shanghai, Istanbul and Scotland – as well as the characters (Albert Finney and Ralph Fiennes amongst the thesps) – and most importantly – the new Bond girl (to be played by Naomie Harris).

Interestingly today’s launch comes fifty years to the day that Sean Connery was announced as the very first Bond.

It’s also interesting that the press conference was streamed as a Sky News / Apple iPad exclusive, but Sony is the distribution partner behind the movie franchise and actually hosted today’s huge announcement. We’d have expected the “Skyfall” event to be streamed on one of Sony’s new S1 tablets. The Gadget Helpline wonders what cutting edge toys will appear in Bond 23!

The Bond 23 announcement comes days after the reload of the game GoldenEye 007 on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Check out our Retro Replay feature to read more about the original 1997 GoldenEye 64 – the first-person multi-player that started it all!
