BT Openreach launching 300Mbps broadband

BT Openreach has just announced that the telecommunications company will begin to roll out its new fibre broadband service the company like to call FTTP or Fibre To The Premises.

The new FTTP service will initially launch with speeds of up to 110Mbps, however it’s expected that by spring 2012 the downlink speed will roughly double to 300Mbps.

The company also confirmed another boost for broadband speeds in the UK that are delivered by  FTTC or Fibre To The Cabinet, as the relevant authorities have approved the downlink speed increase meaning that users can also expect to double their download speeds from 40Mbps to 80Mbps.

BT are investing £2.5 billion to make fibre broadband available to two thirds of UK premises by the end of 2015, currently, more than five million premises already have access to the super-fast network with the company saying that tens of thousands are gaining access every week.

Openreach chief executive Liv Garfield said: “Today is a significant step in the UK’s broadband journey. These developments will transform broadband speeds across the country and propel the UK up the broadband league tables.”

The new service is available to CP’s or Communications Providers to use on a wholesale basis which will allow them to market the new service to the end user, meaning that hopefully some of your favourite ISP’s will soon be utilising this new service and offering us much faster downloads speeds in the not too distant future.
