Best Buy has announced that its UK stores and website will be closing down for good on January 15 2012, as part of an official statement posted by the electrical retailer today.
The name is one of the biggest electrical retailers in the United States, and in 2010 a joint venture between Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse brand the name and its shops across the pond. Stores opened in Southampton, Bristol, Derby, Croydon and further afield, with a total of 10 opened across the country by the beginning of this year.
Unfortunately the effects of the recession that has recently struck the UK has hit Best Buy in a bad way, forcing the retailer to close its stores and website altogether, less than two years after it began trading this side of the pond.
The statement from Best Buy reads:
“We’ve loved bringing our passion for the latest and greatest technology to Britain over the past 2 years, and have always had the utmost appreciation, respect, and commitment to the entire UK marketplace, our customers and stakeholders.
“However, as you may know, based upon the outcome of our employee consultation, we intend to cease retail trading at our Best Buy UK branded stores & website by the 15th January 2012.
“We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you.
“We are still committed to making sure your needs are well served up until our closing and beyond. Our on-going services are described in the “Customer Notice” and in our stores.”
Of course, the end of Best Buy means great things for the UK customer, especially at this time of year. Along with the closure of its stores Best Buy has announced a closing down sale, with 10%, 20%, 25% and 50% off selected products on its website starting today.
The biggest discounts available are on Blu-Ray and DVD movies, of which there is a very limited selection. Other discounts include 10% off televisions, 20% off printing and 25% off networking.
There are definitely some bargains to be had, so head over to BestBuy.co.uk and use the code BBY at the checkout to score your discount.
