Ever fancied yourself as a bit of a Michael Knight? Nissan has brought that boyhood dream of having a car that talks to us that little bit closer by introducing its first offering to the smart watch market, the Nismo.
Yes, you heard us correctly. Somewhat surprisingly Nissan, the Japanese car manufacturer, has joined the likes of Sony and Samsung and produced a smart watch which combines the upcoming trend of wearable tech with the passion of driving and following a promotional video released this week it will get a first public showing at the Frankfurt Motor Show starting September 10th.
The Nismo watch comes in Black, White and Black/Red and looks like the stuff of sci-fi. As well as syncing with the usual social networks and email accounts to advise the driver of any new notifications it will also cleverly track the vehicle’s speed and performance and the wearer’s vital statistics such as heart rate and body temperature.
Linking up with a Nissan vehicle, the Nismo is always connected and prompts the driver to beware of icy roads, to slow down if heart rate appears elevated, to check in for maintenance and generally spouts helpful advice just like faithful K.I.T.T from the 80s Knight Rider show (but sadly without the ever-concerned voice.)
Avid motor fanatics may also be interested to know that the Nissan Nismo Watch will come boxed in a special rubber box made of scrapings from an actual race-course. We think you’ll agree it’s all pretty cool but perhaps this gadget is a little too specialist interest to pose a real threat to other track rivals when the smart watch boom really picks up speed.
