Dell Stops Selling Smartphones In The US

According to reports, Dell has decided to pull the plug on its smartphone range in the US due to poor demand and sales.

The last two Dell smartphones that were available in the US were the Windows Phone 7 handsets; the Dell Venue and the Venue Pro. Neither device will be available in the US anymore nor will the company have any plans on replacing them with a successor either. A Dell spokesman said “Mobility products have shorter lifecycles than laptops and desktops” and that the smartphones had run their course in the US.

By ending the sale of the Venue, Dell has discontinued all of its US smartphone brands, after initially entering the market back in August 2010 with the Aero smartphone and Streak 5 combined tablet/smartphone.

Dell has stated that the company will be working on its mobile strategy for emerging markets, as well as focusing on high margin devices.  Although, it’s expected that Dell intends to introduce more mobile devices in the US, although it’s unlikely to be new smartphones.

Dell will continue to sell smartphones in other countries around the world where it has seen more success than in the US, maybe with the possibility of those countries seeing a successor to the current Venue smartphones.
