As the title may suggest the online retail giant that is Amazon, recently announced that it is looking to acquire cloud-based digital comics platform comiXology. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed as with standard practice in a takeover, although we can expect it to be completed in the coming months.
ComiXology had this to say about the takeover: “We look forward to bringing comics and graphic novels to even more readers.” ComiXology was founded in 2007; the New York-based company quickly became popular, driven by their unique Guided View technology which essentially presents comic content from dozens of publishers to you in a cinematic format.
“We’ve long admired the passion comiXology brings to changing the way we buy and read comics and graphic novels,” stated David Naggar, Amazon Vice President. “We look forward to investing in the business, growing the team, and together, bringing comics and graphic novels to even more readers.” This is no bad thing Amazon already has a huge user base and this company is only likely to grow under amazons direction, meaning more comics for all.

“ComiXology’s mission is to spread the love of comics and graphic novels in all forms,” said David Steinberger, co-founder and CEO of comiXology. “There is no better home for comiXology than Amazon to see this vision through. Working together, we look to accelerate a new age for comic books and graphic novels.”
Graphic novels have somewhat fallen out of popularity in the last decade, with modern technology slowly taking over our lives the newer generations are missing them all together, what better way to revitalise the industry than to combine the two. I for one hope this deal goes through as it gives me one more reason to justify the amount I spent on amazon prime. Feel free to disagree with me in the comments if you think this is a bad idea.
