Disney Mobile has made its first giant leap into the smartphone and tablet gaming market as its new app, Toy Story: Smash It! blasts off on Android and Apple iOS gadgets from today.
Toy Story: Smash It! costs a meagre 69p/99c and from the get-go you’ll notice the style of play borrows heavily from the tried and tested Angry Birds format, by putting the player in a three-dimensional playground and a third-person perspective with Buzz Lightyear as main character.
Playing as the Space Ranger from Star Command, gamers chuck bouncing balls at those squeaky three-eyed alien dudes from the claw machine who appear in the guise of ‘astro-pirates’. Blasting the aliens off of their building block platforms brings you closer to taking on the evil Emperor Zurg himself, and the game features other familiar faces including best pal Woody the cowboy, who pops up with helpful advice and tips.
Despite being another in a long line of Angry Birds similes the game has the appeal of being an official Disney Pixar offering and that high calibre production really does show in this inexpensive app. Toy Story: Smash It! will transport you to that same childhood place that the movie franchise does with something for kids and grown-ups a like. Little touches like the hand-drawn backdrops come straight out of a childlike imagination and the game is addictive and a lot of fun to play!
Toy Story: Smash It! is available from the App Store for Apple iPhone and iPad with a version for Android available on the Google Play store later today.
