Every now and again at The Gadget Helpline we like to give you a bit of insight into the developer world and the amazing things they can do with a smartphone. Today we have another amazing modification for the HTC EVO 3D, this time bumping up the processor speed to unprecedented levels.
Yet to be released in the UK, but definitely on its way, the EVO 3D is an example of HTC’s best work, coming with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, HTC’s brilliant build quality and of course glasses-free 3D technology.
Well, over at XDA one of the developers has managed to get the EVO 3D’s dual-core processor to run at a finger burning 2GHz. This is a speed that we could only imagine will allow the EVO 3D to anticipate what you wanted to do before you have even thought it yourself. Well, I might be overstating a little bit there but you get the idea.
This clock speed would make the phone blisteringly fast and is a first for a dual-core mobile device. The idea of overclocking mobile phones has been around for a while – my own HTC Desire HD for example sits at a processor speed of 1.9GHz and is perfectly stable, but 2 cores running faster than this? I would love to get my hands on an EVO 3D running at that speed.
This all comes from the discovery of how to get the EVO 3D into download mode – a secret mode used by HTC to unbrick a bricked (broken) device. With this mode the developers have been able to get past HTC’s locked bootloaders and flash custom ROM software onto the phone, unlocking the bootloader and opening the gates for modification.
This HTC EVO 3D has a faster processor than some of the first desktop computers I had, how crazy is that?
