When you’re excited to go globetrotting one of the last things you think of is your data plan, you’re far too busy planning your big adventure! No one wants to rack up those hefty data roaming charges for ten minutes on Facebook or uploading that epic selfie of you with a burger the size of your head. Explora has taken the difficulty out of all of this, and have provided a service worthy of any avid adventurer.

Explora is a phone rental service whereby a snazzy Nexus 5 complete with data plan and a few hidden extras is sent to you hotel ready for you to use as soon as you get there; and all for $8 a day! That’s the equivalent of 2 coffees, who can argue with that?!
The data package includes 4G data, unlimited calls (local only) and texts and up to 40 pre-loaded apps. You get a Nexus 5 Android smartphone, charger, USB cable and instruction guide, as well as the pre-paid returns envelope for when your stay is over. There are no recurring charges and they don’t even mind too much if there are a few little scratches when it’s returned.

They are currently only available in America and there is a $10 delivery charge with an additional $5 charge if you order another Explora Travel Kit, but if you’re based in Manhattan they will get the handsets to you the same day if ordered before 5pm. I must say, I am quite impressed with the service and am also conveniently off to The Big Apple in November, so may have to put this service to the test!
