The Facebook app for Android smartphones gets a facelift today with the update to version 1.6.1 available now through the Android Market.

You won’t get a notification to tell you that the update is available, so you’ll have to go to the new look Android Market yourself to grab the latest version of the mobile social network app.

Unfortunately, we can’t seem to grab the update as the market itself keeps crashing the download! But from the reviews we’ve heard so far the latest instalment irons out some of the wrinkles found in previous versions, but the main change here involves our Pages. Pages we Like and Pages we admin are now easier to find and manage. You can even make posts as the Page or tag your Page in a post or status to help promote it. By using the @ symbol as a prefix, the Page title will act as a link just as it does in your desktop version.

Unfortunately it seems that Facebook for Android 1.6.1 still doesn’t bring the much desired ability to make a default picture or to delete or amend an unwanted post – a nightmare for us typo-phobes!

The Zuckerberg Empire has also launched it’s “Facebook for Every Phone” java app for basic handsets which let’s everybody get socially networking on the move – You can read the Gadget Helpline article HERE.
