FingerKey App Can Unlock Your Mac Using TouchID

What with all this hacking left, right and centre, more and more people are being concerned about the security of their data. We all know we should have really secure passwords with random letters, numbers and other strange characters to ensure it is difficult to crack – but at the same time we all know how difficult it can be to remember all these long, difficult and confusing passwords.

Well, if you happen to own a Mac and also a newer iPhone you can take advantage of a brand new app designed to make your life a bit easier when it comes to remembering your login details, and at the same time ensuring that it’s completely secure, so you can be assured the data contained within is safe.

The app is called FingerKey and it takes advantage of the TouchID sensor implemented in newer iPhone devices, such as the iPhone 5s, 6, or 6 Plus and gives you the ability to easily and securely login to your Apple Mac device.

The app is one of the first to take advantage of the fact Apple have “opened up” the Touch ID sensor to third-party developers, whereas previously it could only be used to unlock your iOS device while also authenticating App Store and iTunes purchases.

Even if you have multiple Apple Macs, FingerKey can manage them all and be easily unlocked with a scan of your fingerprint, using 256-bit AES encryption. It also has support for a Notification Center Today widget for quick access.

Also, If you happen to have an Android device along with a Windows PC or one running Linux, you don’t have to feel left out; the developers of FingerKey have announced that they plan on releasing a specific version for Android too, albeit that it will be a pattern unlock method for logging in to your computer using gestures.

If you fancy giving the app a go, FingerKey is available on the App Store now priced at $1.99 (£1.49). The developers have also released a video showing the app in action, make sure you check it out below.
