Since updating to iOS 6 yesterday, we’ve heard of a recurring issue where users are unable to connect to both the App Store and Passbook app for extended periods of time.
The error “Can’t connect to iTunes” has been popping up for users on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch when trying to download or update an app, or connect to the App Store to download Passbook-related apps from the Passbook app itself. We’ve not come across the problem on any of our devices yet, but thankfully we’ve uncovered a fix.
In order to get rid of this annoying error message, follow these steps:
- Open Settings
- Tap General
- Tap Date and Time
- Turn ‘Set Automatically’ to Off
- Manually change the year to 2013
- Try to update apps again, you should get the same error
- Return to Settings > General >Date and Time and turn ‘Set Automatically to On
- Try updating again
This should solve your problem, and will enable app downloads and updates from the App Store once more via 3G or Wi-Fi. It should also resolve any app download issues when using the Passbook app.
Let us know how you get on, and if this trick worked for you.
UPDATE: Some of you have unfortunately not managed to fix the issue using the guide above. If this is the case, try these steps afterwards.
- Open Settings
- Tap iCloud
- Turn Passbook option Off
