Just in case you were in any doubt over how popular the Samsung Galaxy S4 would be, the Korean company has just confirmed it has shipped 4 million in the space of 4 days, breaking its own record.
The figures of course don’t exactly mean sales, but the number does show that demand for the latest Samsung Android phone has risen from last year’s Galaxy S3, at least with retailers and carriers. Everyone wants to stock the latest and greatest Android phone, it seems. By comparison, it took the company 21 days from the launch date to ship 3 million Galaxy S3 handsets.
“As of the end of April, we supplied four million Galaxy S 4 handsets to telecommunication operators around the world,” Samsung told Korean news outlet The Chosunilbo.
This just goes to show the soaring popularity of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S phones, with the heat growing year on year. Compared to the figures for the S3, the S4 makes it look like a slow seller, but that was far from the case at the time. The Galaxy S3 smashed the previous record set by the S2, which took 55 days to reach 3 million shipped units.
During the same interview Samsung confirmed that to date 6 million Galaxy S4s have been sold around the world and the company has expectations of hitting the 10 million mark before the end of the month, which would mark a phenomenal uptake.
Samsung will no doubt receive criticism for boasting figures that only reflect how many phones have been sent to shops, networks and resellers around the world, rather than to actual consumers. Analysts have slammed Samsung in the past for this practice, claiming that the company makes its figures look great on paper, but they’re not comparable to rival brands like Apple.
