Last night was the dawn of a new era for Android users, with Samsung releasing the much anticipated Galaxy Nexus, not to mention Androids next incarnation in the form of Ice Cream Sandwich.
But this now brings us to the first order of business, how good will the Galaxy Nexus be, and is it worth waiting till November, or should you take the plunge and get its cousin the Galaxy S II?
So first off let’s look at the specs:
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the new OS onboard.
- You get a HD Super AMOLED display (1,280 x 720).
- A 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor with TI OMAP chipset.
- There is a 5 megapixel rear camera (with LED flash), a 1.3 megapixel front-facing cam.
- 1080p video recording and playback, a newfangled panorama mode.
- A 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth 3.0.
- There’s also USB 2.0, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi.
- An embedded NFC module, accelerometer, compass, gyro, proximity sensor and even a barometer.
- Finishing things off, you get 1GB of RAM.
- 16 or 32GB of internal storage space and a 1,750mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy S II
- Android Gingerbread 2.3 comes as standard,(the option to upgrade to ICS should come soon).
- You get a super AMOLED plus screen with a WVGA resolution.
- There is a 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor with a Exynos Chipset.
- There is a 8 megapixel rear camera (with LED flash), a 2 megapixel front-facing cam.
- 1080p video recording and playback.
- There’s also USB 2.0, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi.
- You get 1GB of RAM.
- 16 or 32GB of internal storage space and a 1,650mAh battery
So there you have it, a direct comparison of the two. The problem I have is for Google’s next flagship handset it’s not as impressive as I would have liked. However, with ICS on board it is more than likely going to be a hit. Personally I will be waiting patiently with my Galaxy S II for the Ice Cream Sandwich software update, which I believe will be ported before the Galaxy Nexus has even been released.
