After a near-death experience last year, GAME is proving there is still life in the high street retailer and in keeping ahead of the game, the chain will be introducing tablet computers onto shelves in the very near future.
Tablets like the Apple iPad and Google Nexus 7 have become rising platforms for portable gaming over the recent years and GAME is looking to capitalise on this trend and take a ‘natural step’ forward by offering its customers a range of slates of varying specification, from low-end to high-end, all capable of app-based playtime.
The retailer will be initially backing the Android-based Archos GamePad, a dedicated gaming tablet complete with thumb stick, d-pad and function buttons, as well as a number of entry level devices to introduce gamers to the new age gaming platform, with tablets starting from £60 and rising to the more expensive iPad.
GAME has stood the test of time (just barely) and has learned first-hand that change is necessary to keep up with the ever-changing gaming landscape which is becoming more and more dependent on digital distribution.
