Some of our American cousins were left feeling rather dejected last night after rushing home with a sealed copy of Black Ops 2 shortly after midnight, only to find a Mass Effect 2 disc in the box.
The latest title in the Call of Duty series launched yesterday at midnight, with queues outside stores found all around the world. Thousands of gamers went home to play the game into the early hours, but as PCGamesN reports, an unfortunate bunch discovered the wrong disc in the box.
Those on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 appear to have avoided such a traumatic ordeal, though PC gamers weren’t so lucky. Some gamers successfully installed the first disc with aplomb, but when it came to installing the second disc from the box, something truly horrifying was to be found: a Mass Effect 2 disc in place of Black Ops 2 disc 2.
We’ve got nothing against Mass Effect 2 – don’t get us wrong – and in fact it’s a great game, but it’s not what you want at 1:00am when you’re feeling bleary eyed, yet jacked up on caffeine, eagerly awaiting to play a newly purchased game. We’re sure console gamers would point out that those unfortunate PC gamers wouldn’t have this issue had they purchased a version that doesn’t require multiple discs (ooh, zing, etc), but we still feel sorry for them.
It’s not all doom and gloom for the unlucky few however, with the option to finalise the installation via Steam available. While this would still give gamers the option to play the game eventually without having to go and get it exchanged at the retailer, the process would take much longer due to download time being factored in.
One bemused gamer uploaded a video of the phenomenon, and as you’ll see, the game disc itself looks perfectly normal with the Black Ops 2 cover printed on it. When the disc is inserted however, AutoPlay shows it to be a Mass Effect 2 disc. Check it out!
