Android as a legit gaming platform is about to get a big boost in the US, where premium games service GameTanium is launching a subscription library including an initial 75 games set to become 200 by the end of 2011.
The $4.99 per month service will allow Androiders unlimited access to the extensive gaming app library, from company Exent, on smartphone or tablet with the ability to seamlessly switch between gadgets, continuing the gameplay. The service in the States is run through T-Mobile and Verizon.
Gamers can preview a title from the on-demand catalogue before purchase, through trailers and screenshots. Allowing for a good look at a title before committing to buy, because as we know there’s a “no refund” policy on digital games.
Potential for success could be good, but we’ve got to say that many of the titles coming up we’ve never heard of – “Farm Frenzy” and “Wave Blazer” anyone? However, could the lack of a reputable title be indication that Exent’s GameTanium isn’t really going to become any kind of contender?
The climate of the mobile gaming market is hotting up, with EA’s recent purchase of PopCap and the ever-popular Angry Birds as a mainstay, Android is a highly contested platform when it comes to games.
