E3 2014: Glacier White PS4 to debut with Destiny in September

At last night’s E3 2014 conference Sony kicked off its show with an in-depth story based look at Bungies’s incoming Destiny game which will be landing on both the Sony PS4 and the Xbox One, but with Sony’s next gen console getting the game some time before its major rival.

Bungie looked amazing, and with the Bungie team behind it we expect that the game will deliver on all levels. Sony has also made a bold statement that “not only is Destiny first on Playstation 4, Its Better”.

Sony will be releasing a new special edition PlayStation 4 console bundle alongside Destiny on September 9th and will be come with a new “glacier white” 500GB PS4 console, White DualShock 4 controller, Destiny and a 30 day PlayStation Plus voucher.

Not long after the conference had ended, Sony sent out some official press release’s regarding the White PS4, by announcing its first colour variation on the next gen Console plus the announcement of an additional “Urban Camouflage” variation of the DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller that can be bought separately.

The White PS4’s will be releasing alongside Destiny on September the 9th in North America, Latin America and Europe in the bundle pack, which should RRP for US $449 / €439.

However us folks in Europe will be able to pick up the White Console on its own outside of the Bundle pack from September too with a European RRP of €399. The DUALSHOCK 4 in “Glacier White” and “Urban Camouflage” will both be available at an RRP of US$59/ €59.

DUALSHOCK®4 Wireless Controller To Be Available in “Glacier White” and “Urban Camouflage”; PS4 Game Portfolio Will Continue to Expand, and YouTube Support to be Added by the End of This Year

TOKYO, June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that it will introduce the first color variation for PlayStation®4(PS4™) in “Glacier White,” which will be available worldwide starting this fall. Peripheral lineups will also expand with the “Glacier White” DUALSHOCK®4 Wireless Controller and Vertical Stand*1, in addition to DUALSHOCK®4 in the color “Urban Camouflage.”

In North America, Latin America and Europe, PS4 in “Glacier White” will be available as part of a bundle pack featuring Destiny, a highly anticipated title developed by Bungie, Inc. and published by Activision. The bundle also includes a free 30 day membership to PS Plus*1, and comes at a recommended retail price (RPP) of US$449/ €439. Furthermore, PS4 in “Glacier White” will also be sold separately in Europe at an RRP of €399. The Vertical Stand will be available in Europe at an RRP of €19*2, and DUALSHOCK®4 in “Glacier White” and “Urban Camouflage” will both be available at an RRP of US$59/ €59. The pricings for each product in Japan and other Asian regions will be announced on a later date.

Gamers now have a variety of colors to choose from when selecting PS4 systems and peripherals, as users can choose from both the original “Jet Black” and the new “Glacier White” PS4 systems, as well as a range of colors for DUALSHOCK®4 including “Urban Camouflage” and “Glacier White” in addition to the existing colors*3.

The PS4 system’s game portfolio will continue to expand with over 120 titles to be available worldwide by the end of this year. These include highly anticipated titles from first- and third-party publishers such as LittleBigPlanet 3, SingStar, and DRIVECLUB (SCE World Wide Studios). Games from independent developers continue to thrive on PS4, with upcoming titles like N++ (Metanet Software Inc), GALAK-Z: The Dimensional (17-BIT Games), Secret Ponchos (Switchblade Monkeys Entertainment), Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty (Oddworld Inhabitants, Inc / Just Add Water, Ltd.), and The Witness (Thekla, Inc.).*4 New content for THE PLAYROOM, a title pre-installed in all PS4 systems, will be offered for free starting this summer. Using the PlayStation®Camera, gamers can display themselves on their TV screens and use either their PlayStation®Vita or a mobile device installed with PlayStation®App to add music or original objects to their surroundings. The new content adds a variety of customization options, like the ability to add special lighting and smoke effects, as well as personalized banners. Gamers that enjoy live broadcasting their sessions with THE PLAYROOM using PS4’s built-in ‘SHARE’ functionality also gain new options, including the ability to add user generated polls on specific topics, such as their favorite videogame or character. *5

Furthermore, YouTube is coming to PS4 this year. PS4 gamers will be able to quickly upload video captures to their YouTube channel with a simple press of the DUALSHOCK®4 Share button. Users can also see their friends’ shared YouTube videos in their “What’s New” feed. In addition to the integrated sharing functionality, a YouTube app on PS4 will become available where PS4 users can access their favorite YouTube channels, videos and personalities.

Along with exciting upcoming titles and the enhancement of network services, SCE will further expand the PS4 platform through the introduction of PS4 in “Glacier White” and the broadening of peripherals.
