Gamesmaster’s 29th annual Golden Joystick Awards are to be dealt out on October 21st and voting has just gone live and this year’s nominees, in the vast range of categories, are really some heavyweight contenders, with no less than 20 titles duking it out for the biggest prize of all – “Ultimate Game of the Year”.
The Golden Joystick Awards began in 1982 and became a televised event through the Channel 4 show Gamesmaster in the late 80s – presented by Dominik Diamond and the gigantic floating head of Patrick Moore. This was a must-watch event of the year for gamers. The show has since finished its run but the awards have remained year after year, with 2010’s nominated titles receiving 1.5-million votes in total.
This year’s categories remain much unchanged, with the following awards up for grabs:

Best Role-Playing Game
Best Massively Multiplayer Online Game
Best Fighting Game
Best Racing Game
Best Sports Game
Best Strategy Game
Best Music-based Game
Best Free-to-play Game
Best Mobile Game
Best Download Game
Titles included in those brackets include popular games across the platforms such Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, Portal 2, Call Of Duty: Black Ops, Dead Space 2, Bulletstorm, and L.A Noire – with many more to choose from in the full list of nominations which is up on the Golden Joystick website now – Get your votes in!
