With Google’s next iteration of the Android OS now official we are starting to get a few leaks and bits of information surrounding the incoming Android 4.4 ‘KitKat’ operating system. The latest leak comes courtesy of 9to5Google, who revealed images purporting to be of the new OS.
At the beginning of September Google shocked many by announcing that its next Android OS update would not be called ‘Key Lime Pie’ as many had suspected, but instead the company made a non-monetary deal with Nestle to name the 4.4 OS as Android KitKat, after the chocolate wafer bars.
The images that have leaked online show a brand new look and feel to the incoming Android OS with a more quirky and colourful overall look. The dialler screen looks to have been redesigned (well as much as a dial screen can be) with big numbers on a white background and the home screen pictured seems to be carrying on design aspects from the recent Nexus 7 and 4 devices from Google.

This latest batch of images doesn’t show any new functionality just yet, but more of a design overhaul. With Apple unleashing its new iOS 7 last week to users many people have called the latest iOS a slight rip-off of the Android OS, so it’s good to see Google using some nice colours with not a neon shade in sight.
Rumours are that Google will be releasing a new Android KitKat running flagship handset next month in the form of the Nexus 5, and from there we might see the OS landing on older and newer handsets after the Nexus launch.
