Google is Creating a Special Edition of Chrome for Windows 8

  • by

Google has confirmed that it is already creating a new version of its Chrome browser, specifically for use with Microsoft’s forthcoming Windows 8 operating system.

The search giant confirmed that Chrome for Windows 8 is being designed to fit in nicely with the tiled Metro theme of Windows 8, which is bound to please Microsoft no end. Chrome will be ‘pinnable’ as a desktop tile in Windows 8, and should follow the Metro theme fully – that means tiles, the same typeface and simple looks.

Our goal is to be able to offer our users a speedy, simple, secure Chrome experience across all platforms, which includes both the desktop and Metro versions of Windows 8. To that end we’re in the process of building a Metro version of Chrome along with improving desktop Chrome in Windows 8 such as adding enhanced touch support,” a Google spokesperson told Mashable.

Windows 8 has been designed with tablets and touchscreen computers as paramount, also with support for laptops and desktops. This means that Chrome for Windows 8 should work across the board on all devices, including future Windows 8 tablets, which are likely to be made by Samsung, Acer, Lenovo and other top-name brands.

We hope that Google manages to get its Chrome browser for Android out of beta and into a full version for use on all Android tablets soon, as if Windows 8 gets Chrome for tablets before Google’s own Android OS, it’s sure to frustrate Android tablet owners.

Google confirmed that Chrome for Windows 8 would be completely different to the Android version, however, taking notes from Chrome for Windows desktop instead. Windows 8 is very cloud-orientated, meaning that your data is shared across any Windows 8 machines you log in on. We hope that Chrome can utilise this, so that we can finish browsing on our PCs or laptops, and continue on a tablet fluidly, or vice versa.

Windows 8 launches later this year, and a consumer preview is available to download now for those who want to try it.
