Google Drive is currently down for a large percentage of users, resulting in thousands being unable to access files stored online or upload new content.
Google has acknowledged that there is a problem currently affected its cloud-based storage system and promises to fix it as soon as possible.
Users have been experiencing problems since early this morning, with many being greeted by a message confirming the issue when visiting Google Drive to log in. “We’re investigating reports of an issue with Google Drive. We will provide more information shortly” says Google.
Right now it seems that the iOS and Android apps for Google Drive are working okay for the large majority, but PC and Mac access through the Google Drive programs and websites appears to be problematic for some.
The issue is obviously a major bind for those who rely on Google Drive to store and access important files on a daily basis, as without access to the service many can’t upload or download files. The issue also highlights the concerns many still have when it comes to cloud storage – no internet or no service means no access to your files.
Whilst we’re able to log in and use Google Drive as normal here at Gadget Helpline, we’ve noticed a growing number of complaints popping up on Twitter today that suggest the issue is widespread and not linked to any particular type of user.
Google has confirmed that it is currently working on issues that are “affecting a significant subset of users”. A further update should come along shortly, so stay tuned.
UPDATE: Google says that service should be resumed for some users, although some are still experiencing issues. “Google Drive service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users within the next one hour” the company posted.
