Google has made some subtle changes to the mail and calendar synchronisation for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users.
Within the Mail and Calendars apps of iOS lies a service called Google Sync. You can’t open it or view it, but it’s what brings your Google email and calendar appointments down from the Google Cloud to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
New updates made today by Google will bring better mail and calendar synchronisation to Apple devices. From now on you’ll be able to look up emails stored on the Google server rather than just ones you’ve received on your iPhone.
For instance, you received an email a year or two back; it’s not on your iPhone but you’re out and about and you need to read it. Simply do a search within the mail app as you normally would, and Google will pull it up for you.
Google have also made changes to make it easier for users with multiple email addresses tied into one unified Gmail account. When you send an email from your iPhone, Gmail will give you the option to “Send mail as” and choose exactly which address you want to send from. You’ll never send an email from the wrong address again!
Calendar events can now be edited on your iOS device, too. When your iPhone syncs a calendar appointment from the Gmail cloud, you can choose to accept or decline the event as well as editing the details.
