Google has this week launched a new update to its Google Map service which improves the accuracy of its directions and estimated arrival times, either using the standard web app, or when using Navigation mode on an Android device.
The updated feature now evaluates real time traffic conditions and is constantly up-to-date, meaning users should be provided with the best possible route to take as well as a more accurate estimation as to when you should arrive at your destination.
In order to access the new traffic data (if its available in your area), simply go to the directions section within Google Maps, and after planning a route you should see that underneath the normal journey time, you’ll be presented with a time that has been calculated to include current traffic conditions.
If you’re planning on using this feature on your Android smartphone, you can do your bit to help fellow drivers and improve real-time traffic data, by enabling the My Location feature within Google Maps. This data can then be used to assess current traffic conditions and should there be any congestion, it can help users avoid it.
